I would check this:
"... The standard of payment is: monthly salary30*working days. "
Do the math on that one. The implication is that you will be working thirty days per pay check.
20 hours per week is steep.
Does the 20 hours include the English Corner? |

| English Corners can be a drag. You practically have to be a song and dance man. The level of English among the attendees is from zero to fluent. Headache inducing. I go to them occasionally, but would balk at being required to go. |

I believe this was in the OP. Of course, thanks for all the helpful responses instead of the ones telling me not to be lazy. I thought this forum was for advice, which is why I posted it here. It wasn't that long of a contract, so I figured what's the harm? But, your displeasure is duly noted.
Meanwhile, thanks to Peter and others who posted here. It was my first look at a Chinese contract, and you all gave me a lot to think about. I might end up passing on this job, and looking for something a little more substantial, but I have until Sept, basically to make up my mind (allowing for some time to process my visa and whatnot), so it's all good.
Thanks |

| Anyway, I'm kind of in a rush to get there (was there in 2007, studying Chinese, and have been itching to go back), but I'm taking my time and reading over everything really carefully, and making sure to ask tons of questions. |
its prudent of you to ask questions, but don't expect too many answers and don't expect them too quickly. while we see the asking of questions as a way of getting to know the lay of the land, a way of finding out what we're getting into, as one of our responsibilities even, many FAOs view them as troublesome and for that reason, they cant be bothered to answer most of them.

you don't really have till september to make up your mind. you have about one or two weeks from today to do that. this is a university job and most universities like to have their roster of teachers for the coming year signed up sometime in May. people who wait too long to decide often discover (when they finally do make up their mind) that the school has found someone else. Then, if you still want to work in China come September you'll be rooting through the scrap jobs that no-one else wanted. |

If you engage in any email communication with the FAO, do not delete any of their responses - this could be proof should they ever decide to back down on their "promises" and "assurances" ! Of course, you should always ask them to either to issue a new contract, or to include such changes in an addendum.
This is excellent advice. An FAO pulled a fast one on me. Before I arrived at the school, she told me directly--- in an email--- that I would be paid for ECs. I got there and she wouldn't pay me. I showed he a copy of the email and forwarded it to the recruiter who refreshed her memory. |

Oh my, I most certainly did not know that. See, that's something I would have never thought to ask. Thanks so much, Cleric! I guess that kind of puts a rush on things. |
