That's not always true, Mia. Local hires get full holiday and sick leave entitlements. it's correct that they don't get housing and flights, but then if they're married to someone receiving these benefits on their behalf, it doesn't make a difference. As for salary, a few places do pay local hires much less than international hires, but it's also true that many places pay them the same as they would pay an international hire with similar quals.
As a local hire you also have the advantage of flexibility in that it's way easier to change jobs without having to go through the whole NOC/visa process again. On the other hand strictly speaking it's illegal to work if you're in the Kingdom on your spouse's visa, but I've never heard of a teacher getting into trouble because of this. Has anyone heard of this happening? |
