Is anybody going to post anything about holiday restrictions at a certain institution, lack of holiday salary advances and the non-payment of merit pay? |

Tellifler: You could at least say what institution, and perhaps someone with a little 'gut' could say something. |

NCTBA: You mean "Anybody who SHOULD KNOW....knows?" If not, then Tefllifer still needs to KNOW. |

Oh, come on - don't be such cowardly gits!
We all know it's HCT - look at the thread entitled "Education is Wealth".
Some of you guys would jump at your own shadow!! |

Yes, anyone with UAE experience immediately knows that it is HCT. So, the change in merit pay and piddling annual raise has been discussed elsewhere... what's the story with the "holiday restrictions" and "holiday salary advances"?
Is this confirmed or just rumor?

HCT has never funded the end of service gratuity as it went along (meaning, setting aside the $$ as contracts were completed so that it would be available when the employee finally left). This practice has made some very nervous - thinking that if, for some reason, there were a lot of resignations in a given year (i.e. more trouble in Iran, Iraq, etc.) then the gratuity might not be paid. Especially if you have more than 2 contracts completed = 6 months salary in gratuity.
This year, people have put in for their summer salaries (as has been done in the past) and HCT has told them that it isn't "necessary" to pay them as the modern banking system makes it possible for employees to access their pay easily anywhere in the world - duh, we've been able to do that for 10 years So that excuse is not being accepted as the "real" reason. And, predictably, the rumours are flying about solvency in the HCT system.
IMHO - HCT isn't going anywhere, its latest incarnation as becoming solely a Bachelor degree granting institution and getting rid of Diploma and Higher Diploma is not a great idea - there is a place for college students in the UAE society/work world but I don't run the place |
