After working in Hanoi a couple of months, I am beginning to get jaded by the city- and wonder if there are better options to work elsewhere in Vietnam.
I do understand that every place suits different people, and can guess that some expatriates do stay in Hanoi for the long term. But I have noticed that Hanoi has a lot of job postings, and am beginning to believe its because it is hard to get teachers to stay here.
Are the reasons for so many vacancies, because teachers don't want to work in Hanoi?. |

Depends on what you are looking for. If you are like most young men who like to party hard, then HCMC is probably more suitable. I have been to Hanoi a few times and i cant say i was too impressed by the night life. If you're into girls, you'll find chicks in HCMC to be more open and promiscuous.
The weather in HCMC is generally better. Its also close to many popular beach resorts such as Mui ne, Vung tau and Nha trang.
I hope this helps. |

Actually most single people would not like Hanoi. There seems to be a cultural apartheit here, which is opposite the multi-cultural asian countries I lived in.
You can see it in the "nightlife," and how the sexes seperate in a more Middke-Eastern way. Men in coffee shops, or beer halls, women in groups at home.
Promiscurity does exist in Hanoi, because of the incredible amounts of motels in the real city (outside the tourist area), which must make business with local people- So the fallacy southern girls are more promiscuous is untrue.
I lived in many South East asian cities, and can say from experience, Hanoi seems more closed minded, tribal and very middle eastern than
both Indonesia, and Malaysia- its strange. |
