Not to mention, alt work is usually 9-5 (for full-time), while eikaiwa is usually 1-9... I love waking up at 6 am and finishing so early. It makes me feel like I have tons of the day left  |
Yes, I agree. I prefer to finish work and have the evening to yourself
I think ALTs in general do a very good job. Are they prefect? of course not. I know the teachers I work with are very thankful they have me, esp in the elementary schools. These ES teachers were never taught how to teach English when they trained to be a teacher |

| Yes, some of them get stuck with that assignment (teaching English) and really don't want it. Some are very good, and helpful to some 'clueless' Jets. |

Really don't want it?
Thats life, I think few ALTs or any profession always gets what they want! Some do want ES schools, some don't, ALTs are not in a position to choose. I personally enjoy the variety
Anyway why did you say JETs? we should be talking about ALTs.
I am sure that happens, there are obviously JETs that are motivated and some that are not (like any profession in the world) but I think (at least from my experience) the number of elementary teachers that are clueless far out number the JETs that are.
One very difficult thing for some ES teachers (elementry school) is that some of them are really scared (if I can use that word) because in some of their classes some of the kids will speak English better than them. Some kids go to juku or have lived overseas etc. An ALT will never have that problem |

I thought they meant JETs as in JET programme ALTs. Lord knows the JETs I've seen have been pretty awful. |
