Hi,
Does anybody out there have any info (good & bad) about International House in Kazakhstan? I was considering applying there for later this year, however when I noticed that IH Almaty are looking for 30 teachers for Sept/Oct I was more sceptical than before!!
I've done a bit of research on Kazakhstan on the internet, it seems like a pretty decent place to work & live, does anybody have any info about what to expect. I'm pretty well travelled so not easily put off!!
Thanks |

Hi
I did some part-time work for them for about a year, several years ago.
They were well set up and run very well. In their main (basement) centre, they have a bunch of very friendly receptionists, the classrooms are good (but rather small) students and teachers were cool. Resource centre was also pretty good then so by now it must be pretty huge.
There were no issues with pay and they provided reasonable shared accommodation. They even provide lunch if you are doing a split shift.
Note that they were then (probably still are) expanding to all corners of the country.
I'd say, go for it. As far as Almaty is concerned, for me it has one of the most attractive settings anywhere; at the foot of a snow-topped mountain chain. Wonderful.
Traffic and pollution is bad but compared to somewhere like Jakarta, it's paradise.
Best
