|
|
Hi guys,
UKLA has told me that their pplication processs includes a grammar and reading exam, then 40 minutes demo class, finally face2face interview. I am really curious about the grammar and reading exam! Has anyone had this experience before? Because most of the language schools just sends you a contract after reading your CV This is how it was with the school I am working now. If any UKLA teachers on this forum, please help! Many thanks in advance! |

I am a teacher at UKLA in Izmir and have been here 3 years. For my interview I just gave my CV and I had to do a demo lesson. I thought the tests were only for non native speakers but maybe not. Good luck in the job search. |

I have been working for Ukla Academy in Bursa, Turkey for about 3 yrs. now. I am from America and had to do the grammer tests and demo lesson, too. I think this helps them (Ukla) to place you. I really love it here. Ukla is like an extention of my family. It's always hard to be away from your family in a normal working situation. But, working overseas is a lot harder. And they understand that here and are very helpful, we have activities with the students and the other teachers. And there is always something new to learn and share. :D |

You're from America, are you? The "grammer" tests? An "extention"?
Uhh, why am I suspicious? |

So which part of America are you from? After 3 years there, you should be able to give some information about the "employment package" care to share some useful information about it with us? |

Perhaps UKLA Academy in Bursa doesn't have very exacting standards, if they allow teachers to pass tests with obvious spelling mistakes in them. |

I really hate it when people start their own little critical analysis of other people based on typos etc. Who cares really if people mistype on a forum? This is an informal place to share and chat about various issues, not a place to correct and be petty.
If you have something to share relevant to the question at hand then do so, otherwise what's the point really. All this negativity just keeps people away and doesn't encourage collaboration. Just my two cents. |

I apologise if my posting was deemed as petty and negative.

However, as somebody who sits on interview boards, hiring potential teachers, I find it is exactly these "petty" spelling or grammar mistakes that can lead to non-hiring. If a school wishes to maintain high standards, the interviewers will be hot on this issue.
I was merely pointing this out, and how it rather reflects the standards at this institution if a teacher can write like this. I think eclectic was suspicious that this posting might actually be from the hirers trying to boost their school's reputation rather than a teacher! |

About the 'employment package' they differ between the specialities of the teachers and how they choose to work. A 'package' I would recieve would be a lot different from someone who has come to Turkey recently. Hey, don't expect me to tell you how much I make, but why don't you check out the website for the standards? You know what...I would tell you more if you weren't being so cynical. http://www.ukla.com.tr/v2/english/. And if you really want to talk to someone who can help you,you could also call and ask for me or other native teachers. I'm done trying to prove something here. HAve a nice day. :) |

Hello all,
How is this institution? Granted the last post was a few months ago but was wondering how people are being treated here. If people could post a few more details, I'd greatly appreciate it. |

I'm curious as well, as I think I need to get out of Tunisia ASAP... Just the fact that there is hardly anything posted about UKLA on this forum is a good sign to me. |

I also am having little success in finding UKLA on these forums. Good sign, I hope.
Wondering if anyone could tell us about salary, hours for part-time or full-time, insurance, etc?
Oh and I saw on their website that they offer housing allowance? Is this true? |

I am looking at UKLA as well. I've been looking at their website and it looks and sounds good. I was just told that the language schools in Turkey don't begin hiring until late August/early September, so it'll likely be the same for UKLA then? |

Hey,
I was also looking into working for UKLA and I stumbled upon this (http://teflblacklist.blogspot.com/2007/05/ukla-academy-bursa-turkey.html)
I am not sure what to make of it. Perhaps the teachers were as bad as they claim they were, but the response Adres Language School (not sure if they are affiliated with the school, however they seem to be personally involved) does not seem very professional either. Not to scare people off, but you might want to do a little more research on the company before you jump head first into it. So if there are any other teachers who have worked for UKLA it be great to get some inside opinion.
Hope this helps guys! |
