A school is asking for a copy of my passport photo page and also proof of graduation. My question is how do I send them this information? Is simply taking a picture of them with a digital camera enough or should I go somewhere and use a scanner?

Unless you can make a quality copy with your camera I suggest getting them scanned properly so there are no issues.

Scanning is cheap and easy. I would go that way.

Scan or good photo will be fine. Remember to blank out your passport number for security measures.

if you're clueless about using a digital camera and software, you should get your passport and other stuff scanned on a flatbed scanner by someone who knows what they're doing.

but if you have a basic working knowledge of a digital camera (anything other than a cellphone camera) and knowledge of some basic photo editing tasks (cropping, levels/exposure, image resizing) then photographing and processing the images yourself takes all of 10 minutes and its free.

in the end, (if one has the basic knowledge above) to the untrained eye (which is the majority of people) the images from a scanner and a camera will look virtually identical.

Here is a tip:

You make quality scans of your passport, diploma, certs, etc. and send them as an attachment to yourself so you'll always have them available in your mailbox.

You can then forward them from anywhere in the world. Gmail is well suited for this as are other mail clients.

Your school does need acceptable quality scans to submit your FEC documents online.

And if you DIY, you'll avoid all those trojans, worms and viruses from the photocopying shop's computer. Always run a virus scan of your little flash drive/memory stick when it's used in any computer in China.
