You're a;ready in China, and I guess working legally with a FEC and a Residents Permit in your passport. All you need do is simply go to Beijing on your current RP and have the school in Beijing renew it in Beijing at the Entry/Exit Bureau near Dongzhimen when it expires. Your new school should take care of the FEC.
I can't think of any reason why you would need to start the whole process again with a new Z visa. |

| I didn't think I needed to start the visa process again but I was under the impression that I have to have my RP changed if I move cities. |

| Most definitely; RP's are employer specific. When you leave your current postition, the permit will be cancelled by the employer. |

Sorry, NOT most definitely. I have changed employer twice since the introduction of the RP. Never had it cancelled, never returned it to anyone. The RP only requires a sponsor to have it issued. If you subsequently change employer, the RP shouldn't be cancelled. However, many employers will do this (probably out of spite or the need to feel they control you), but it is not a requirement. You simply take it with you and when it expires, your new employer will sponsor it's re-issue. |

Not unusual for Schools to be required to cancel the FRP if it is valid for more than thirty days after the FTs departure. If not, the old school is still on the hook for legal and medical issues that may ensure.
Know a school owner that had 50K of medical bills pushed his direction after a FT left with an open FRP and worked illegally for two years thereafter. Then the FT had a big accident.
With much effort, the school avoided it.
So, it is really the local PSB who pushes the policy in many cases.
Not sure why a school would choose to continue to extend their potential liability, but if they are willing and the local PSB is willing, Godspeed. |

Just remember not to surrender the RP/passport and you may avoid being subject to such nonsense. I have seen few schools take responsibility for injuries occurring while the FT was employed and it is highly unlikely that they would accept any responsibility for payment of injuries received after employment was terminated.

This is SOP for most schools as to any involvement with responsibility. |
