I've been offered a position at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The position and school sounds legitimate but I can't find anything out about the company. Their "agreement/contract" is between you and the International Co. for Education and E-Learning, not between you and the school and no where on the contract does it name the University. So, there are red flags.
Anyone know anything about this compoany? Is it legitimate?
Thanks!

An "E-learning" company without a website is more than a red flag. What kind of E-abra Kadabra learning they do!!!!

I interviewed with them last week and asked them what type of visa is being sponsored. he told me it is a work visa. I was told that they would get back to me with contract details in a few weeks. They have not contacted me yet.

Avoid this company like the plague!

You will not get a legitimate working visa for months after arrival.

The company is managed by amateur Saudi "businessmen":
your values are worthless + no communication + no trust + shady contract = unpleasant experience.

Working for this company means you will be working at King Saud University alongside Bell employees. Read all the Bell/KSU posts for more information on this working environment.

The lack of ink in the contract explains it all. The less the contract says, the less you can expect from a company.

I work for ICEEL. I don't know anyone who has not had their contract honored. Pay is invariably early/on time. Other things tend to be on the Saudi time frame, if you know what I mean.

Was I working "illegally" when I arrived? Yes, but only if you are naive enough to apply western ideals regarding the rule of law to Saudi Arabia, as many do. Did the police care that I was "illegal" when they regularly stopped me for doing 170 in a 120? Not one bit. (By law I should've gone to jail, for excessive speed, not to mention my visa status or the fact that I didn't have a drivers license of any kind, but instead I was told to slow down and carry on.) Did the employer that ICEEL has the contract with care that I was "illegal" and had to leave the country for a few days on a visa run? Not one bit. Was I able to handle my business? Yes.

People concerned with the "legality" of this or that should get out of their home country a bit more and/or use their noodles for something more than grammar/spelling checks. There's a different standard here, namely Allah's Will.

You mean to tell me that people avoid following the rules or enforcing the rules beacause Allah allows/tells them to? All along I just figured they did this because people either had wasta to move them foward or they just plain didn't care what a person was doing.

But, than again "legality" has a whole other meaning from what I can read in your post. It seems that you as an "illegal" in Saudi didn't get a ticket, or jailed, but I am not quite sure how long that can last, because like any "illegal", there can always be the that situation that can fly you right back to where you came from or God forbid you get punished in KSA.

However, you can stay in a country illegal all your life, and just live life the way you have, no personal bank accout, no real id if you have no iqama, and most likely no health insurance, which for many is not a bad choice when it comes to their own personal living standards.

UmmKhadija,

Actually, it is compulsory for Muslims to obey the laws of the land insofar as they do not contradict Islam. What I meant to suggest was that many, or most, misunderstandings (to include interpretations and enforcement of laws and what weight they shall hold) between Saudis and the non-Muslims here could be explained by accounting for the Saudi mindset that Allah is running the show.

The only reason, however, that I said anything was because I felt that jewsareok had misrepresented ICEEL. Seriously, I haven't heard an extraordinary complaint yet. Will there be the occasional, or frequent, surprise? Yes. But this is Saudi and that's part of the adventure. Will the company deliberately do you wrong? No. But if you have it coming that's a different story. And even then, I'd say they've been more than fair with those they've had to deport...

Salaam.

i think we could fill 5 forums like this debating over the meaning of 'wrong'

exploiting foreign workers using (or abusing) a position of authority may not be 'wrong' to some. in fact, those some may find it quite puzzling if you told them that you find anything 'wrong' with that practice, no matter how strange that may sound to someone from, lets say, the west. lets not forget, this was common practice in many 'western' countries (and in many others) a couple of hundreds of years back, at the time it went by the name 'slavery'. and in saudi arabia, they write 1431 now, not 2010. so, yes, in theory i agree that they will not do anything 'wrong' deliberately from their point of view. but from your point of view, it can still be abuse, exploitation and deceit, and chances to establish the proverbial common denominator with your employer in saudi regarding these issues are rather slim

Some like it , some hate it. i agree that being 'illegal' isnt a big deal there. I was illegal for a couple of months , working while on an exit visa. because i got fired by king saud(I was with bell) ICEEL wouldnt take me on even to work at another site. I have a friend going to work with ICEEL and they could send you to a number of locations around saudi. It allows you some freedom to transfer if the place youre at sucks. The ICEEL employees at King saud were living on a nice compound with a pool in the heart of the city very close to the university so that was a bonus.

go for it as along as they don't ask you for money. the visa cost might be expensive though.

they do have a website now btw.
