Hi,
I have previously taught ESL in Thailand at a Government school (Wat Saket - Bangkok) and also at a Language School (GoInter - Siam Square) so I'm familiar with everything related to those working environments and living in Thailand.
However, I am a fully-qualified teacher with a Bachelor of Teaching degree from the Australian Catholic University and also have TEFL, and I have over 9 years of full-time classroom teaching experience in 5 countries.
I'm now very interested in finding a teaching position at an International School, but I'm not up to speed on all the specifics and the best way to research my options and how to apply.
My experience includes:
- 2 years teaching 4th grade in Australia
- 2 years teaching 5th grade in London
- 4 years teaching 5th grade in North Carolina, USA
- 1 year teaching primary and special needs in Dublin, Ireland
- 6 months ESL at Wat Saket High School Bangkok
- 6 months at GoInter Language school Bangkok
- Plus other courses and support roles within the school systems.
I understand teaching positions at international schools are hard to come by and are competitive. And I know it depends on the school and the location etc, but if you have any first hand experience I would love some feedback on the following questions:
- Do these schools recruit overseas, or it's best to go to Thailand and knock on doors?
- Is sending my CV by email a good option?
- Any benefits as far as flights/accom etc?
- What are the schools to stay away from?
- website resources?
Thanks for any feedback and advice! |

As the OP is a new member, she may not be able to use the PM function until she has posted the required number of times. I believe the number is now set at 5.

Hi Kiels,
Thanks so much for your reply. I got your PM and sent you one back, not sure if you got it but here is my reply anatway.
I didn't know about this MOD EDIT website, cheers for that!
I looked on the MOD EDIT and found 2 jobs in Thailand, one for a music teacher and one for MOD EDIT in Bangkok. I couldn't find the Koh Samui job???
It says the MOD EDIT job will have interviews in Birmingham, but I will send in my CV and see what happens (I'm an Aussie currently living in America). Maybe they could do the skype thing?
So where are you located and what are you teaching?
I just came across someone's list of the top 10 international schools in Thailand, and I think I will send my CV direct to them all and see what happens.
Once again thanks for your reply. I will be in touch.
