Hi all
I'm thinking about relocating to teach in Oman, amongst other places.
I've got a telephone interview with TATI for a post in Ibri tomorrow (I'll write how it goes later). I was just wondering if you think a 1400 package in Ibri would be fair enough for a guy like me:
42 year old single male with BA English and PGCE, with 7 years' EFL experience (in UK and Poland), looking to save a bit of cash for a year or two. Not too bothered about the lack of city life, as I need some quiet for my writing.
I'm pretty clued up on Oman and Ibri, but do you think there are much better jobs I should be looking at in Oman (I think not, as I don't have an MA, but you're the experts ...)
Thanks, and anyone who's currently working (or recently finished) at Ibri and happy to PM, please do. Thanks again. |

The package is fair and market value. You may be able to do better, but it is unlikely in the college system.
I am assuming the 1400 omr pkg is inclusive of salary, housing and all allowances with the exception of annual return airfare to home country. This is a fair pkg. If 1400 omr is base salary this package is outstanding.
Good luck and enjoy Ibri |

Thanks jdl.
Yes, the package includes everything bar the flights, so, as you say, a fair salary.
Any more thoughts please, people? |

As jdl said, very fair package.
I would suggest that you insist that TATI assist you in finding housing. It can be difficult for a non-Arabic speaker to find housing easily. You need to insist that they give you assistance in this area--either by lining up some English speaking contacts at various real estate offices for you, or actually coming to Ibri with you to help you.
There are not a lot of Westerners in Ibri--just the English staff at the two colleges--so about 20 people. It is very, very, very, quiet!!
