The 80's bring back so many memories, some good and bad. Those were my teen years and HS graduation, so mostly good.

Don't forget:
Prince
Michael Jackson and Thriller (still the best video of all time)
U2 (before their fame got to them)
MTV started
Atari, Commodore 64 and CollecoVision
Wayne Gretzky
The Cars
Huey Lewis and the News
Expo 86 in Vancouver
The Breakfast Club
Ferris Buehler's day Off

Hey this is bringing back great memories.

Fat Chris,
BTW Ricky Martin was a member of Menudo

Having spent two years in the Czech Republic and nearly a year now in Japan, I was not aware that the '80s had ever ended... (Leg warmers?!?!?)

I would love for another explosion of bands like the Cure, Smiths, Jesus & Mary Chain, etc. And U2 before they got sucky, but Gordon already mentioned them.

Speaking of mullets, do you guys/gals know www.mulletsgalore.com?

Why the 80's weren't so bad:

The Jam
The Cure
The Smiths
The The
Hunters and Collectors
The Pixies
The Jesus and Mary Chain
Triple R in Melbourne
Triple J in Sydney
REM
Nirvana
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Brideshead Revisited
The Holy Grail and the Meaning of Life
Russia was still keeping the US honest.
Margaret Thatcher was proving that women could be goose-stepping fascists too.
Australia II won the America's Cup.
The Berlin Wall came down (and Yanks still claim resposibility - lol. It's probably something to do with JFK proudly proclaimimg that he was a sausage)

Like always, there was lots of cool stuff in the 80's if you knew where to look, just as there are always tasteless slaves of fashion that are embarrassed about their perfidity afterwards Smile

I was born just before the eighties, too, and the only thing that really sticks in my mind about the time (rather than playing Chuckie Egg on the BBC-B with my friends) is that bags of Monster Munch were "proper" sized -- you could go for days on the corn-snack goodness stored up in those packets. *Sigh*

Very perceptive observation, Mouse.

I had a bag of Monster Munch a few months ago ... for old time's sake! I was horrified to clench a crisp that had seemingly shrunk by about 100% from memory! I was appalled by this discovery but then started to doubt whether my judgement was fair. Like you, I was a nipper during the '80s and so my hands have done a bit of growing since then! Maybe the size of Monster Munch have remained absolute and my anatomy has grown to create this illusion? Who knows? This was a sad realisation though - expecting a trip down memory lane with a faithful friend, only to enter an avenue of disillusion and disappointment.

If only for Monster Munch to seem gigantic again, can we PLEASE go back to the '80s?

If you can identify with at least half of this list then you, my friend, are a "Child of the 80's". Cool

1. You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, Wax off".

2. You know that another name for a keyboard is a "Synthesizer".

3. You can sing the McDonald's Big Mac, Filet-O-Fish, Quarter Pounder, French Fry song while jump roping.

4. You know who "Mr. T" is.

5. You know who Fat Albert is. And also the boy with the pink mask.

6. You ever wore fluorescent, neon clothing.

7. You could break dance, or wish you could.

8. You wanted to be "The Hulk" for Halloween.

9. You Believed that "By the power of Greyskull, you HAD the power!"

10. Partying "like it's 1999" seemed SO far away.

11. You thought that Transformers were more than meets the eye.

13. You remember the Garbage Pail Kids, and owned some.

14. You knew what Willis was "talkin' 'bout."

15. You HAD to have your MTV.

16. You wondered why Tootie always wore those skates.

17. You actually thought "Dirty Dancing" was a REALLY good movie.

18. You watched Purple Rain over and over again.

19. You remember the episode of Good Times when Flo broke down after James' funeral.

20. You remember when ATARI was a state of the art video game system.

21. You own any cassettes.

22. You were led to believe that in the year 2000 we'd all be living on the moon.

23. You remember and/or owned any of the Care Bear Glass collection from Pizza Hut.

24. Poltergeist freaked you out.

25. You carried your lunch to school in a Gremlins or an ET lunch box.

26. You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the ONLY female smurf.

Is 30 old? I fear to admit that every last one of them fings on CG's list rang a bell, be it small and tinkly or quite gong like.

Will any women out there admit to having styled their hair in that horriffic double (sometimes triple)-layer fringe that plagued my yearbooks from 1986-1989? The one with the three of four hair sprayed darts that lay slightly curled on the forehead, with the spiky wall of hair that rose up over your head?

I didn't... but I did have a long shag (woohoo! I can say that without any sexual innuendo because I was12 at the time... and wearing acid wash jeansand those super long strands of fake pearls and pearly pink nail polish... o god I am going to be ill...)
