I know there are a lot of threads on this topic already but I couldn't find a really definite answer.
I have a choice on arriving on July 28 compared to August 21. I prefer August 21 because it's after obon but I'm worried it will be too close to the hiring season and I won't get a job. Do you think arriving in August compared to July will have a significant impact on my chances to get a job? I'm tight on cash and prefer to avoid 1 month of expenses if possible.
I know there is no definite answer and there are so many variables, but I'm going in completely blind here and if anyone could offer any opinion here, it'd help me alot. |

Depends on where you are heading in Japan. If you end up in a place that has term dates like mine, you'll be screwed because we are back at school on 20th August this year.
Also depends if the employer is prepared to let you start work without a visa. This would concern me because why would a decent employer be hiring so late? Even if you found an employer willing to employ you coming in August, you would be putting yourself in a position to be royally screwed over leaving you out of pocket by more than that measly month of expenses you are trying to save.
I think that unless you have a huge string of interviews with really interested employers all lined up for your arrival in advance, you are making a huge mistake not coming over earlier. |
