How many cancelled classes are acceptable in a primary school? For awhile I didn't really notice much that my classes were often canceled for things like recital practice, folk dancing, field trips, school trips, and stuff. Now its to the point that final exams are being cancelled, so I'm a little befuddled. Is it normal? And I don't know how the other teachers cope (I noticed one was giving a math test over different classes, but it seems hard to plan lessons like that). Whats the norm for this sort of thing? |

What country are you in? Your avatar only says "Asia".
It's not the norm for Japan. |

I know, I used to teach there. That's one of the reasons I'm wondering if maybe there are countries where this is the norm.
My country pretty much gives up my identity, but its "near" China. The students are 90% European, though. |

It happens a lot here on the NET scheme in HK but that is only because the local English teachers are under pressure to complete the text book in time for exams! Looks like English is not valued at all where you are as they might cancel the NET English lesson but they would never cancel exams - unless like last year they closed the schools for Swine flu and even then P5 came in to take them! |

yeah, our kids couldn't come to school but could practice sports after school. It seems like the priorities at my school are recitals (to show off for parents?!?), sports, and then maybe some education........ |

In some of your other posts, you say that you're in Shenzhen. That's in China.
I'd say that I often had cancelled classes and exams at the end of the school year, becuase they had more important things to do, like prepare for the parade where they had to goosestep for 45 minutes. |
