|
|
I have a MA TESOL and have taught at universities in both Japan & Korea. 6 years university teaching experience.
What are the chances of someone like me finding a job teaching at a college or university in Turkey?
My passport is an American...not sure if that is a strike against me or not. |

Your chances are quite good... but you should act a.s.a.p. as the hiring season is mostly over... but I know of at least a couple unis that are still hiring |

Googled this school just for kicks... the PR office is in Sisli and I find no other mention of a location for the school, you sure they are going to be on the Asian side? |

Is this for September?
I was actually inquiring more for early 2011...when do they usually hire for that semester?
Thanks for all of the many responses here. Turkey seems very promising as a possible destination!
Just curious...what kind of typical salaries should one expect at the university level in Turkey? Working conditions (how many teaching hours a week, etc.)? Thanks for all of the replies so far! Active thread, I didn't expect that. |

Depending on which University you work for and which department your in at the University it varies. From my personal experiences and others that I know this is the average that I've come across:
15 to 23 contact hours, 6-10 administrative
salaries range from 1500 USD to 6000 TL *Koc, Sabanci, Fatih, Sehir,Oz, Bilgi, Isik
Accommodation usually comes with "white goods", sometimes basic furnishings. Can be a stipend, part of your salary or on campus.
Peak recruitment is March and as late as June |

Hiring for universities in Turkey runs almost exclusively on the Western academic year- September to September and recruiting starts as early as January/February for that and often goes up until June - but not much after except for newer, less organized places.
It is very, very difficult to find a decent job at universities outside of this time period.
There are very occasional positions that come up for the Spring semester, but these are really an exception. |

Yeah, I liked that also. Is that their euphemism for, "Our school and students are chaotic"? |

I've actually seen that phrase in other job ads over the years, I wonder if this is a common expression in Turkish ads that has just been translated over? Or if their HR manager has been making the rounds of the TEFL circuit and keeps using the same phrases? |
