|
|
So, I currently work for an agency which farms me out to two different universities. After my year contract is completed (the end of this semester , June 2 I am supposed to be reimbursed for my airplane ticket.
The person from the school is now telling me that I won't be reimbursed until the beginning of the fall semester due to 'bureaucratic' issues.
What should I do? Does SAFEA actually help with anything?
Thanks |

So, being farmed out? Not working legally then?
SAFEA can't help you. You supposedly have a contract with the agency, not the university. The agency should pay you. |

one of the bureaucratic issues is possibly getting the money approved. seems that for any money to be dispersed 10 people need to sign a piece of paper. anyway, bureaucratic issues are not good reasons for making you suffer.
much of the time, when schools play these games, its just posturing to see what they can get away with (been through it myself before). inform them you need the money for your holiday and you expect to see that money in your account before you leave to go home. be firm, and dont relent. if they dont come through with the money, then consider further action. since time is short, you need to work fast. Good luck. |

I have often been reimbursed in the Fall for my ticket. It hasnt been a problem as I was continuing my contract. I am curious what will happen this semester as I am leaving. |

Working legally. I have a foreign experts book and legit residence permit. But yes, the contract is with the agency. That's why I was confused about the issues with bureaucracy. This is the first and last time that I'll teach with an agency. |

If your contract states you're supposed to be paid at the end of the academic year, you're supposed to be paid airfare before you leave.
The way to make sure this happens is to inform your agency that because of "beaurocratic reasons" you will find it impossible to turn in final grades until you return in the Fall. Of course, this won't have the same impact that it would if you were actually employed directly with the unis, but hopefully it'll work. Otherwise, you run the risk of never seeing that money. |
