|
|
Greetings, All. I've lurked and enjoyed the posts here for a while, and I'd love some practical advice.
I recently submitted an application/essay to Aeon, and was invited to one of their group interviews in LA. Here's the thing - I don't have a Bachelor's Degree. I was very honest about that in my essay and on the app, but I really don't want to foot the expense of the trip to LA if they're simply going to say "Whoops!" when I get there and tell me thanks but no thanks.
I'm aware of the visa issue, which is what has me worried. While I don't have the degree, I do have extensive professional experience, including classroom facilitation and several training certifications. As I've been working as a manager and field trainer and not a full-time teacher, though, I don't think it meets the visa requirement on that score either.
What should I be believing here? Did Aeon actually read what I sent and they want to give me a shot anyway, or did I just got a "bot" invitation? I've been to Japan multiple times and this is a dream I really do want to pursue, if there's any real chance of it leading to an offer. I'm just reluctant to take time off work and pay the travel expense if it's all a pipe dream. Any advice would be sincerely appreciated! |

How much? You will need 3 years of FT related experience to get a work visa if you don't have a degree. If that's the amount of experience you told AEON, then perhaps that's why they have agreed to an interview.
If you don't have the 3 years, politely tell them no thanks. |

I guess the key question is "related" experience. For the last 6 years I've been a Training Manager and Classroom Facilitator for a fairly large company, but that's only a part of my job description - not all of it, but I was exactly accurate on my application. Is that close enough, I wonder? |

Perhaps they were too busy thinking, "Perhaps a good a candidate for company classes" and didn't notice the lack of a degree. You should contact them directly and double check. You should also contact an embassy to see if they can shed any light on whether your experience stands a realistic chance of getting you a visa. It would be awful if Aeon gave you the okay, you got hired then later your COE app gets rejected. |

It may all be up to how you sell yourself. |

Well, interestingly, I got a call from Aeon today. The gentleman was very nice - but basically told me they loved my application and essay, and he just didn't notice until today that I didn't have the degree. So, in short, we didn't want you to waste a trip.
I wonder if a smaller company would give me a shot based on my experience. It seems like I'm going to have zero chance with one of the larger eikaiwa. |

Big or small, the employer still needs to be convinced that your experience has a good chance of passing immigration for a visa. |
