well Mr Mead I appreciate all of that as it is certainly complimenting my already-wary view of the situation. Rougher seas? Oh boy, I really gotta think abhout this one man. It may be boring as all hell here in Korea, without any non-Koreans whatsoever to shop around or offer different cuisines, etc., but it is certainly quite easy in terms of the workaday aspects. Well streamlined to say the least, and efficient, if not a bit too beaurocratic.
Thanks for those pointers, they are well appreciated.
p.s. "a test tube of stool"? Is that really so? Is it called "Bilharzia Stool Pigeon" by chance? |

Well that is mighty grotesque. Omelettes was coined in another thread when SJ wrote about getting jabbed twice or something like that, I can't remember now. It's not a term in this case.
Anyway sounds quite nauseating. Can't wait for the Jabbery to commence. |
BTW, they need a fair amount of blood (about 10cc) because they have to do so many tests:
HIV 1&2
Malaria
HBS Ag
HBS HCV
Syphilis
RPR or VDRL
Preg. Test
Glucose
They need a test tube full of stool to check you for parasites, Schisto, Colera, etc. etc.
The urine test will check you for sugar, protein and schisto again along with drugs.
Oh, and if you have so much as one varicose vein, you will be rejected for a visa - that's what the doctor said and it's listed on my medical form as one of the items to check.
You need an X-ray too to check for TB.
Needless to say, if you can pass all that TWICE, you are as healthy as they come. |
Could that possibly be true? I can't imagine being rejected for a teaching position because of a few vericose veins. I am preparing for the medical exam now and do have a few.
I would appreciate it very much if anyone with vericose veins could share their experience with this exam.
Thanks,
KME |

I just went to the Saudi Embassy website and looked at the Medical Exam form and read the following:
MENTIONED ABOVE IS THE MEDICAL REPORT FOR MR / MRS / MISS ____________________________ , WHO IS [ ] FIT [ ] UNFIT FOR THE ABOVE MENTIONED JOB.
- TO BE FIT, ALL MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS AND LABORATORY INVESTIGATIONS MUST BE WITHIN NORMAL LIMITS. IN THE EVENT OF AN ABNORMAL/POSITIVE RESULT, A TYPEWRITTEN LETTER SIGNED BY THE PHYSICIAN STATING THE CONDITION AND ANY TREATMENT IMPLEMENTED. THIS LETTER SHOULD ALSO INDICATE WHETHER THIS CONDITION OR TREATMENT WILL HAVE ANY EFFECT ON THE APPLICANTS WORK
It appears to me that a letter from my doctor indicating that a couple of vericose veins should have no impact on my ability to perform my job may be all that is required.
But then--I noticed on the form that there is an asterisk preceding just two items on the test: vericose veins and hernia. Nowhere else on the form can I find anything regarding what the asterisk signifies.
Anyone? |
