Can anyone tell me what is the average salary for someone who has a Master, CELTA certificate and 10 years experience in the Gulf?
Thank you for your input. |

I'd say 800-1100, depending on employer and benefits. There are places that have the same salary no matter what the CV looks like, as long as you have the minimum. But with 10 years of experience in the Gulf, you should have a bit of negotiating power depending on their needs.
One doesn't go to Oman for the money.

Is 870 Riyals a good salary? Accomodation, insurance, annual tickets are paid by the employer.
Does this sound fair?
And oh - what else is there to come to in Oman if not primarily for the money? I know it is not the wealthiest of the Gulf States but one should be able to save money I hope.... |

The money is actually pretty good here. Sure, other Gulf countries may pay more, but salaries in Oman are still a good deal higher than salaries in other parts of the world, and they even compare favorably to the US salaries when you factor in the benefits, accommodation, etc., that you don't get on part-time hourly wages in the US. You can easily save $1,000 or more per month and still live well here. (Compare that to the $700 monthly I earned in Peru and the $300 monthly I earned in Prague several years ago...no savings potential at all. I am living like a queen now by comparison!)
870 rials seems a bit low. At my college, teachers with MAs and varying years of experience get 1,000 + housing + airfare.

I'd say it is a bit low with your credentials. But... another variable is what employer it is and where you will be living and whether it all fits your lifestyle.

I don't understand how Oman can keep teachers when 3 neighboring countries pay twice as much and offer the same benefits package?
Don't they all leave for UAE once they're there for a bit? |

Nooooo, not the UAE. Full of vulgar ex-pats and hasn't got half the charm of Oman! |

Many do what I did... started in Oman... went to the higher pay countries for a few years... and then returned to Oman.

Cost of living.
In Oman.....outside of Muscat ...... I saved 70% of my salary, lived well and enjoyed the culture, diverse natural beauty and genuine hospitality. One of the most rewarding of my experiences in education overseas. |
