Something I learned from teaching, not speaking, English: If one watches less television, one can quickly learn to read complete sentences.

Okay, I'll leave this to the Americans, but how about taking me and some of the other non-racist Americans out of your collective we?

Sorry for exceeding the four-word limit.

The Americans are not the reason why English is in charge.
The British Empire created a huge English-speaking audience and market which America used.
English itself is the reason for its success.
While French and Geman were busily resisting English-isms like 'le weekend', English was absorbing new words as fast as they were needed.
And the traffic hasn't all been one way.
As a radio show character once remarked 'Quick, what's French for cul de sac?'

Dominant languages come and go over time.

Some even become extinct.

Nothing promises tomorrow will be the same as today.
