|
|
I am new to esl teaching and I have been offered a 20 hour position in Xiangfan with Aston for 5,000 per month.
After reading other threads I can see Aston has mixed reviews depending on which school is discussed. There is no info so far on Aston in Xiangfan so I'm wondering if anyone has worked here before?
thanks |

for 5000.. u would be much better off at a uni.. unless u like working weekends, getting farmed out to school all over the city, teaching kids that dont want to be there, working like a dog while every other teacher is enjoying a 6week winter holiday, sharing an apt., i could go on... |

You can get a better salary for training centres in Xiangfan than that! |

My husband and I both work for Aston and we have a great deal. Not in Xianfang but I've been around to a few Astons to see how they're run and I still haven't run into problems. I may have to work on the weekends but I get the whole week off - which means I get to do loads of travelling! As for kids not wanting to be there - what a load of hogwash! My students are amazing and enthusiastic and love being in a class with me. If you have come across a situation with students not wanting to be there maybe you should think about your teaching style. (A bad worker always blames his tools).
We are treated well at Aston, have an amazing apartment and we have great colleagues. |

I'm willing to give Aston a benefit of a doubt, since a few years have passed since I worked for them, but back then they represented everything that was wrong with the ESL business in China.
They have apparently instituted mandatory training for all incoming teachers--the lack of which in the past was one of my my big beefs against them.
It still seems to me however, that considering their hiring and promotion practices; the number of people like you who come out swinging in their favor should vastly outnumber the detractors. Up till now that just has not been the case, on this or any other forum. |
