Hello all

I have been offered a position through a recruiter to work as a teacher at Shane English School Taiwan. I was wondering what the general consensus was as to their reputation.

What are they like as an employer?

How do they treat their teachers?

Has anyone ever been shafted or put in an uncomfortable position working for this company?

Just to put it in perspective I am a rookie ESL teacher who recently completed my CELTA, I have little experience and am looking for a good 'foot in the door' type job rather than the best position available in Taiwan.

I'm interested in hearsay, whilst taking it with a grain of salt but would love to hear from anyone who has actually worked there.

Thanks in advance! Smile

I have worked for Shane for over two years now. I can honestly say that I have never had any problems with them. I've heard of other teachers who have had insufficient hours, but I've always had more hours than I cared for. Lack of hours is the only complaint I've heard about Shane.

There are schools run by head office, and there are schools run by franchisees. If you work in a franchise, you deal with the franchise owner, so one's experience depends upon how well the two personalities can get on.

I've worked in Taiwan for close to six years, so I know that any problems I've had at my franchise are few and insignificant when compared to other buxibans, and indicative of buxibans in general.

That's my experience. Any others care to share theirs?

I taught for Principle School for two years, but I did meet quite a few teachers working for Shane. When we compared notes it did seem to me that the Shane school treated their teachers with more professionalism, but I had better hours. It's a bit of a trade off, but I think you'll find that with every school in Taiwan.

Good luck!
