|
|
Just came from five days in Mexico City. Interesting! Starting school tomorrow at ITTO in Guadalajara. The Mexican street food I've had on my trip so far has been great, but I just can't eat that food all the time. I've tried the common pizza slice places, cheeseburger, buffalo wings, spaghetti bolognese (hahaha that was terrible), and now chinese. All probably the worst I've ever had. These aren't exactly the healthiest or ritziest foods, but I am wondering if there are some affordable decent tasting things to eat? Specifically in downtown Guadalajara? I think maybe I've just had bad luck, but maybe it's just like this? Thanks for any input/suggestions |

Look around for a restaurant that offers a Comida Corrida. It will be a 5 or 6 course lunch - starts with soup, then rice or maybe spaghetti, the main dish (you will sometimes be able to choose between a couple of different ones, sometimes not) bean, tortillas, some kind of drink (usually) - lemonade, watermelonade, etc, and probably a little dessert, a piece of candy or something like that. I can't remember, are you coming back to Mexico City after your class? If you are, post again, and I will give you loads of places to eat here. Also, just get some fruit at the market and make yourself a fruit salad, or find a bakery and get some sweet breads, lots of them aren't too sweet, and they are inexpensive. |

Which is more than you can say about the overwhelming majority of affordable Chinese restaurants in the D.F. Avoid them at all costs! |

Have you tried the Korea places off Zona Rosa? Very good stuff there. We shop sometimes at a little Korean grocer for a few harder to find ingredients like rice paper rolls and good octopus. |

No, I haven't, and I don't know why. Probably because I fear they'll just be a Korean variation on a tasteless theme. I'll check one out soon and post my restaurant review. Thanks for the tip! |

Theres a nice Vegetarian buffet restaurant on Ave La Paz, a block after Enrique Diaz de Leon. Fresh, well prepared and always a nice selection. It runs from 1pm to 5pm and costs about $75
Another good vegetarian restaurant is in downtown on Prisciliana Sanchez, a few blocks from ITTO
Of course, you could take advantage of the Sirloin Stockade on Juarez in downtown GDL. All you can eat buffet with every type of food imaginable.
A favourite of mine is a new indian restaurant. Its on La Paz (near Union) too, but a bit further out. If you ask for La Foccacia Italian restaurant, then the Indian restaurant is opposite it. Very nice food there!
Cafe Provedencia on Chapultapec is nice and offers good salads.
Finally, Chai restaurants... one in downtown on Juarez, another in Ave Las Rosas and the biggest one on Ave Vallarta and Chapultapec offer great breakfast buffets on the weekends.
Enjoy eating! |

try cooking?
You can go to the Plazas and eat in Applebys or Hooters. Mcdonalds or Burger King.
There arent many international restaurants in Guad. Theres some italian restaurants near Centro Magno.
On chapultipec theres some places to eat.
I used to eat Mexican most of the time. Once you been there a while you figure out the best places. My favourite was pastorcito on federalismo!!!! best greasy tacos ever. I put on several kilos with Pastorcito alone
Guad is a fairly big city and it takes time to know it. But I love it!! |
