Has anyone worked for this branch? I have an interview for a position there next week.
I know the pay isn't great, but what's the management/housing like? I mean, I've lived in houses with holes in the floor and glassless windows...is the kitchen and bathroom fairly functional though? I don't need the Ritz, just the ability to make Plov
Also, whats the general lifestyle like? As such a historic city on the Volga, I would expect housing to be expensive, museums and theatres to be cheap and produce to be middle of the road as far as price goes.
What about leisure activities? Can I do anything on the Volga? Like cheap boat trips or anything? ...I need a lonely planet guidebook
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I've only ever visited Samara, so can't help you with working there. However, have to say I would leap at the chance of a job there, as I absolutely loved the city. A nice mixture of the old rundown with the newly renovated. Slightly hilly as well. It has a really nice atmosphere - the Volga is very wide here and there's a long promenade with cafes etc. I'd be very suprised if watersports weren't a possibility.
I found it fairly expensive, but that may be because I was living in a much smaller and poorer town at the time. Not sure you'd be doing much eating out on an LL salary.
Hope it helps. |

Many schools are franchises and consequently they vary enormously from one place to another....LL Moscow is a notorious 'Mac School' for bad pay etc. but as you will read from Yakovlev on this site,he enjoyed working for them in Volgograd.I know nothing about LL Samara but the place is one of the better Russian provincial cities, especially in summer. But just make sure you will be in Samara and not Togliatti, the notorious former drugs capital of Russia with its auto manufacturing plant etc!One language school had a habit of advertising jobs in Samara which were actually there and people only found out after arrival! It wasn't LL though and I haven't see them recruiting for a year or two.
Best advice is always to check out things BEFORE you accept the job by asking as many questions as possible-better still try to contact an ex-pat member of staff, rather than rely on the Russian management for info. |

Samara is a beautiful place! I studied there a few years back over the spring/summer period and found it to be quite likeable indeed. |

Hi. I'm Probably a bit late to reply now, I've only just joined and seen your post.
I lived and worked in Samara and neighbour city Togliatti for nearly five years. I worked for, origionally, the Volga Center which later became British American Language center. School was OK, pay started reasonable but became much better because of my experience and accomodation was fine. Get out and meet people and you'll enjoy it although it can take a little while to get yourself established.
I'm writing a blog about my time there at http://pangaea901.wordpress.com/
I'll be glad to answer any questions I can. |
