Tired of reading from an illuminated screen? Come reignite your passion for BOOKS! Yes, BOOKS--real BOOKS! Remember the dog-earing, the papercuts, the smell of tanins...

Bring your swapable stash of English language fiction and non-fiction and come and enjoy an afternoon with other English print starved readers at the Franz Meyer museums patio coffeeshop. Its just across from Parque Alameda right behind the Palacio de Bellas Artes, at metro Bellas Artes.

Why dont you guys just followup the book swap with a jaunt down the book lanes. Make an excursion out of Donceles Streets shops or head over to Casa Lamm and roam that street for the used bookstores? It would be a great introduction to the newbies, if any.
Of course I wont be going with you. Such a shame. But then again we have wonderfull MELL, the Merida English Lending Library. And theyre free and you can take out a dozen books and no one squawks.

Just discovered a small problem...World Cup final match starts at 1 PM this same day. Maybe best to push the meet back an hour, say to 4 PM?

World Cup match...? Is there a World Cup match on Sunday? Shocked

4 PM is fine with me--actually even better--though Franz Meyer closes at 5PM. If evryone else is fine with 4PM, then were probably better off picking a different location to meet. Any suggestions? I will post one or two tonight.

Another suggestion I have is to meet earlier at a place where we can watch the game. Or change the date. 4pm is getting a bit late for me, the rest of you may be ok with it.

There is a Starbucks on Gante/Cinco de Mayo with lots of outside tables, it's on a closed street, and they don't seem to care if you linger.

Im fine with this location if people prefer El Centro as a meeting spot. Otherwise in Condesa on Juan de Barerra there is a coffeeshop (which is right next door to a chocolate shop!) that might serve as a good location as well. I just need to confirm it with the owner since he doesnt usually open Sundays but might do so if there are enough of us. The place is pretty relaxed and far from the uber-hip vibe that permeates the rest of the colonia. Mario the owner used to be a journalist for many years and served in Canada as a foreign correspondent for El Universal during the excitement of the FLQ crisis. Lets nail down a spot by tomorrow if we can..

The really important thing to know here is if the chocolate shop is open on Sunday. I would be fine with this location as well. On second though, with all the rain here lately, outside tables might not be the best option. I am open to location, especially if close to the Metro. I have a decent sized bag of books, some of which aren't even dog-chewed.

I don't have a lot of books to swap, but I am looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting the new posters on this forum.

I'm up for wherever with a screen to watch the game. Joey, you make the call.

Ok, so I will pass by the cafe tomorrow morning and first determine if Marios got a TV set up to see the game. If he does and hes willing to open up for 4 or 5 taechers coming to watch the game... great! If not, Ill suss out another location in Condesa because Im guessing that Starbucks probably wont have a set. I will post tomorrow and let everyone know.
