"Saudi Arabian engineers have launched the countrys first car named after the desert deer (Gazal in Arabic), a speedy animal known for its elegance in the deserts harsh environment."
But, the problem is with it price: $100,000????

C'mon, Uncle Bandar, do you think ordinary or middle class Saudis can buy this expensive Gazal?

One commentator wrote this:
"Oh dear, where to begin? Tacky, Ugly, unreliable and disgustingly expensive and completely UNNECESSARY... Yeah that really sounds like a stupid Saudi product alright... what a dumb waste of resources."

Uncle Sam wrote this:
"Not only does it look like a cheap imitation of the Toyota FJ Cruiser; the price tag is, let's be honest, not even close to all well established 4x4 manufacturers. If I were to invest $100k (365,000 dirhams) I rather buy a full options GMC, or anything else. Not even worth mentioning the experience established manufacturers have with service, etc. "

Uncle Scott, don't touch the Gazal, it is MADE IN KSA, and it is not suitable for your calibre! Laughing Laughing

Dear 007,

"Who said tha the Saudis are not inventors?"

Umm, just what did they invent? Not the SUV, not overpriced, "tacky, Ugly, unreliable and disgustingly expensive and completely UNNECESSARY" products, not even "a dumb waste of resources" (though they are admittedly world-class in the last two mentioned.)

So what's the "invention?"

Regards,
John

Well, the invention is the plate on the car which shows "MADE IN KSA"! Laughing

This car is a thoroughly reworked Mercedes G500.

Yes, the sheetmetal is all new, but the engine and all the mechanicals, electricals, and electronics are unchanged from the German work horse.

Hardly an 'invention'. And even if it was fully Saudi made from scratch, it won't be an invention. But at least then, the could say it was Saudi-made.

Now lets not all get pedantic--the car is Saudi in the sense its styling is Saudi, and like most vehicles in this day and age the component parts come from around the world- so are truly global.
Its the the way of the global village maaaan.

Anyways it'll make a nice change from all the Toyotas and Hyundais that make uo the bulk of cars being driven here Razz

^ And why would you expect that in a country where petrol is cheaper than water? (Petrol: 1 lit = SR 0.45 and SR. 0.60; Water: 1 lit = SR. 2)

Eh, no chance of ONE locally made car changing the demographic of vehicles here, especially when that car is a Mercedes G-Class under the skin, i.e., it will be very expensive (SR. 300,000+), and furthermore, they will "make" only a very small number, as they will purchase the Mercs and change their skin.

A car for rich patriotic people to show off, when a plain jane Mercedes just won't cut it.

It looks like a combination of the BMW SUV and various Toyota, Mitsubishis and Isuzus. It was probably "designed" by Filipinos who can make a knock-off of anything. There are lots of "Hummers" with little gas engines running around The Philippines.
