If I were a Chinese businessman I would be thinking about poaching ESL teachers in China so as to set up an operation supplying Japan, Korea and T-aiwan at a cost that undercuts the US.

The jobs that will be lost are the well-paid ones in those other countries, not the average jobs in China.

Eleutian fees are, for example: 1 on 1 class, class 4 times a month, 15 minutes per class with American teacher + multimedia = $79.99 for 1 month.
I think I read it correctly. Their software must be killer. I'm not an expert, but that does not seem cheap. But wait, this is for one on one classes.
Oh, double that to 15 minutes 2 times a week for one month costs $159.99.

Distance learning can't replace the class room for something as important as language. American colleges and universities employed them for short, low-demand credit curriculum courses in continuing education.

Having taken and having taught distance courses in the states, I am fairly confident that nobody has anything to fear except those who take the course.Such courses may be good lecture supplements to solid curricula, but I can't see any distance outfit producing the same results as a as a class room based language curriculum.
