How much can you really save if you're willing to put in the hours? I'm in Vietnam right now, doing pretty well ($11/hr. vs. $300/mo. in living expenses), but I lie awake sleepless at night wondering if I could be doing better in Taiwan.
What's the cost of living in Taipei for someone who drinks sparingly and lives modestly and how much can I really start to make after a month of making contacts and scoping the scene? |

After a few months, you should easily be able to save $1,000 a month. After eight months to a year, you should be able to save $1,500 and up. Much depends on where you are, how you live, etc. There's a lot more stuff to do here that eats money -- good western restaurants, vacations, girlfriends, etc.... |

I agree that you can save a lot if you put your mind to it. You don't need to kill yourself, nor do you need to become stingy. There is good money to be made here, and you can live quite cheaply if you want. |

how long are you in it for? once you are past the start up costs, saving money in taiwan isn't hard. if you plan on being in country a year or more, taiwan should be a profitable venture. as you understand, no promises though. |

Why would you want to live in Taipei? It's a big island. Explore it first, before you decide to move anywhere. |

Why wouldn't you want to live in Taipei? But I guess that you would actually have to have lived here to really know why it's such a nice place to live. You don't know what you're missing. |
