i just wonder, how will the guys at the saudi embassy in your country know that you need an NOC? you go home, get a new passport, make sure you get the documents to your new passport number, and go to the saudi embassy, and apply for the new work visa. how would they know that you had a work visa before? this is providing that you left saudi properly (ie on a final exit visa) and on relatively good terms with your former employer

any ideas?

This has been the traditional way to get a new job in Saudi if your previous employer doesn't give you an NOC. This is getting rather expensive with the cost of passports nowadays.

I expect that more than half of the posters here who are long term Saudi expats have done this a time or two over the years. Laughing

Well, they wouldn't. Which is why, as VS says, this is the way lots of people evade the NOC requirement. The snag is not only the increasing expense and hassle of getting a new passport, but also the fact that many employers will not employ someone who has previously worked in the Kingdom and has not been granted an NOC. This is because they would be technically breaking the law in doing so, and also because they do not want to risk souring their relations with other educational institutions, especially those in the same city. The world of Saudi ESL is a small one.

When you apply for a visa, they can look at your CV. It is also quite common for facts to coem to lighyt AFTER you get a visa. previous employer finds out, complains and you end up i deep doo-doo and without a job.

i shouldnt think the people at the embassy will ask for a cv

i guess if you made a lot of noise when you left your previous employer, or you left on bad terms, the complaining and consequent doodoo can happen, but if you just left, why would they bother

although i still think it is wiser to go at least to another town if you come back the new passport way, at least for a while

is there an official time limit for not returning without an NOC? 1 year and 2 years have been mentioned here and there

Don't you usually have to submit a CV as part of the visa applicaiton process? I agree that embassy staff are unlikely to pore through it looking for evidence of previous work experience, but they could if they wanted to.

Again, I agree that in practice it's unlikely that an employer would hunt down an NOC-less teacher who returned to KSA. However, in theory they can do so, which is why some employers are reluctant to take people on without the stamp of approval from their former employer. In Riyadh at least, some of the major colleges have a 'gentleman's agreement' (!) not to take on each others' staff - even if their HR depts grant them an NOC.

A cv is usually part of the pile of paper submitted when applying for a visa. Most Embassies do not care, but you might get someone just at the time when he dicides to exact vengeance on the unbeliever fo cooperating with the Zionists inb the international conspiracy against The One True Faith.

Re-opening this issue, I've just received an employment visa with a company...... but I'm having serious reservations about joining the company! Partly because of other offers out there and partly because of the reputation of the company.

I want to apply to other jobs, do you think my passport will prove to be a problem as it has not been used? .

I was thinking of applying for a new passport (so my old visa doesn't show on my new passport). That would be the best way of making sure that I don't receive any problems with the Saudi embassy in London (them asking for a NOC, inquiring why I have accepted an offer and not traveled etc) This way I can apply to other jobs without any hassle.

Any ideas?
