Just had mine done 2 weeks ago at Cho Ray hospital in HCMC.

The total cost was 577,000VND including all the tests and the official certificate.

Pretty much all of the tests are standard things, urine for diabetes, blood for aids and other stds, bp, chest x-ray, etc. There was nothing weird about the whole process and other than having to pay for something I never really wanted, I thought the price was fair. Don't recall if Hep C was tested for but I believe it was.

As for a hospital "agreeing" to sign it, my understanding is that there are only a few hospitals that are able to do it. In HCMC there is a short list of places you can go. I would have chosen Cho Ray even if it wasn't the cheapest as I've had some good experiences there in the past. Might be different in remote areas, don't know.

Hope this helps.

Must agree with Handyman, I went to Cho Ray, they were helpful and efficient, I would suggest that you come to Saigon to get yours done, its well worth the inconvenience

I third Cho Ray. Definitely the cheapest. Yes, you could get all these same tests done for a fraction of the price, but as for a certified place for WP reqs, Cho Ray is the cheapest. They have a special office for foreigners doing this. They'll basically assign a nurse to walk you through all the different stations throughout the (big) hospital. Go w/ a Vietnamese if you want (I thought it was quite helpful to go w/ my gf) but it's possible to go alone w/ out knowing Vietnamese.

Thanks for your helpful replies. Must say you have sold me, I'll be headed to the bright lights in the near future.

Couple of points/questions

- I gave them a ring and they quoted me at 700,000VND - still this is a lot cheaper than the 3,500,000 my local hospital wants. I don't doubt what you're saying Handyman (and your post was very helpful), there could be any number of reasons for this discrepancy.

- Did they provide the form or should I locate my own?

- Do they have any weird requirements with regards to needing a tie etc in the passport photos?

I have asked the guys on the other end of the phone there but I'd quite like to know what was required from people who've been through the door.

Thanks again.

I double checked my receipt and 577 is the number.

Nothing special about the photo (you need 2) and you don't need the form.

When you get there ask for the foreigner entrance and just walk up to the desk and ask for a work permit medical, they'll take you from there.

You're done the medical in 1/2 a day and it will be available 2 or 3 days after that.
