Just want to check on the work permit/visa regulations with EFL in the UAE.

For example:

If someone is in say, a bad school, and resigns with notice before the end of their contract, is it possible to get another job within the UAE in another school?

Do work permit, contract, visas, prohibit this?

Thanks.

It is possible to resign from one position with proper notice and then be able to move on to another job, but you need to get a NOC letter from the previous employer.

You need to find out if by giving proper notice your current school (the one you are wanting to leave) will give you a NOC letter.

And therein lies the rub...

And, if you do give "proper" notice and yer employer gives you the NOC, it doesn't mean that they can't pick up the phone and trash you after you leave. We all know that ethics and trustworthiness is a valued concept in that part of the world.

An NOC isn't worth the paper it's scribbled on...

Absolutely true; I've heard of it happening over the years.

I don't disagree. But the OP asked if it could be done.

Yes it can be done, but often it isn't easy. And hopefully the school that you want to go to wants you bad enough that it isn't a problem.

i changed jobs after a year with hct, moved to another government institution, i know of many people having successfully done the same.

it is a lot easier to change from public to private or private to public, between public sector institutions there supposedly is a no-poaching agreement though this is implemented in different degrees and adhered to from time to time and not adhered to from time to time.

as far as i know from previous discussions with administrators, ZU notifies HCT or UAEU if someone from these institutions applies. that doesnt mean they forbid it, but your management knows. it seems UAEU is not doing the same for HCT and ZU, and I simply dont know about HCT. what I do know about HCT is that they tend to cheat people out of their gratuity even if they give notice according to their contract.

the law basically says that you can change jobs according to your qualifications, meaning it will be easier with a PhD than with a a Masters and easier with a Masters than with nothing much. the law however applies only selectively to UAEU, HCT, and ZU since they use federal where suitable (for them) and something else (e.g. internal regulations, bylaws, or simply intuition) for other situations.
