From reading these forums I'm not too optimistic about the job and pay I might get in KSA. Is an MA essential there? I have
120 Hour TEFL
4 year undergraduate degree in history
Four years teaching full time, 2 in South Korea (one year teaching kids), 2 in Canada
49 years old
It's not likely I would be hired by a college or university. How much would a private school offer me? |

Aren't these the same recruiters who hired that moron coyote to whack that roadrunner? Obviously, they hire incompetents! I'd take a pass...

More seriously (you can always tell when the teachers are on leave )...
You may be able to find a job in an international school... BUT... the good ones require proper certification in education from your home country. (ie to teach in Canadian schools)
The main problem in the Gulf is that employers that will hire you with minimal credentials will be those with the worst working conditions. There are some truly awful places to teach in this part of the world (probably everywhere... ).
Why Saudi Arabia? The real catch with Saudi is that if you do get a bad employer, your ability to leave can be restricted as you need an exit visa and/or your passport will be held. We have had teachers posting here that were in effect prisoners to their awful management.

I am thinking fo KSA primarily for the money. I'm interested in the wages a private school would pay teaching English to adults. A word on hours and conditions would help too from someone is there.
The sheikher is such a comic. Gotta be a lot of jobs for that in the KSA. |

Here is some real stuff for you.
Oxford English Academy in Al-Hassa is a fairly decent sweat shop (that's what I call language schools). They had better working conditions than Berlitz that was in the same building. We worked there for one month and they were even reasonable enough to sign a one month contract with us. My wife made more than I did, she drives a hard bargain. We taught Adults, teens, and children. My better half was famous with the children. All in all if we were really stuck and needed a job in Saudi while waiting for an employer to pay us our backpay and end of term gratuity we would gladly work for them again.
sheikher is anything but a comic. he needs his meds. first he needs some money to buy them....or he could always hang out in front of the drugstore asking for prozac handouts.
