Hi guys,
I'm moving to Guadalajara on 12th September, and was wondering if anyone could recommend any schools to work for out there. I am CELTA-qualified and have 3 years' experience. Also, are there any schools I should avoid?
I would also appreciate any advice you could give me about good areas to live in, and prices for a room in a shared house/apartment.
Many thanks,
Dino |

My husband works at the American school. I don't know much about language schools so can't help you there.
But as far as neighborhoods go... Areas that are very nice, safe and have some gringos are:
Las Fuentes
Providencia
Country
Chapalita
Residencial Victoria
Ciudad del Sol
Jardines de Guadalupe
These will be spendier... apartments will be about 4000-6000 pesos per month but you can share with someone.
There are cheaper areas, but these are the nicer neighborhoods with nice parks, restaurants, etc.
good luck |

hi,
well the city is great, i love living here. there is a lot of work, but the pay here is pretty bad, the average is $50 an hour. also, the schools aren't very good....they don't really consider teaching english a 'real' job, so as well as bad pay, the general conditions are bad. no benefits (holiday pay, sick pay etc), you just get an hourly rate. but they don't seem to worry too much about qualifications or experience, so if you just want to teach and travel, then i guess this is the perfect place. if you're looking for any kind of career development, it's a little tougher. |

Check out the thread at the top of the page now entitled career development and professionalism. Good ideas there. |
