Hi everyone,
I'm considering teaching in Viet Nam and would like a little advice. I have a bachelors degree in liberal studies, recently completed an MA in Education, and have been a substitute teacher for the past 3 years in California. I am looking into a CELTA course in Hanoi and plan on applying for work from there. Here's the question that I have....I am a 56 year old female without ESL experience and wonder about my chances for finding employment. Will my age be a factor? BTW, I'm a 'youthful' 56....still athletic, good health, no gray hair, still ride my Harley!

I don't work in Vietnam, but since no one has answered you yet, I'd say your chances are good, especially with all those credentials. I know Japan and Taiwan is tougher for the older crowd.

Have you posted this in the Vietnam section of this forum?

Thanks for the reply isitts. Yes, I did post on the VN board and received a lot of encouraging replies.

Do you know if their are age limitations in Korea? I'm still researching countries for the ins and outs.

Naw, there are people in their 60s working here I'm pretty sure.

I'm working as an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) in the GEPIK Program. Only requires a bachelors degree. My school considers me expensive because I have 3 years prior teaching experience and a TEFL Certificate so they have to pay me more.

Teachers who have actual teaching certifications back in their home country might be doing different gigs than me.

Anyway, I don't think your age is a problem. Just send a good pic with your resume Smile

What are you talking about? This was not a there/their post. She asked if I knew about Korea (like it was a mutual third-party country) and then realized I live in Korea, so changed it to "there".

Ok....I'm still laughing over all this confusion. You guys are pretty funny and I love working with folks who have a sense of humor. I simply misused the possessive form instead of the place form is all. However, you are all so nice to respond to my post and I am encouraged to begin the application process for work overseas. I wanna meet some more funny people!! Thanks again guys:)

Saints above, my head is splitting. Ran out of breakfast vodka, so have to suffer a touch before I get to the metro kiosk. But, jeepers, still don't have an earthly as to what this thread is about. Do we have prizes for most surreal threads? I think we should. This one's a winner, hic!
