About electronics and packing for China - where do I pack MP3s, a portable USB hard drive, a guitar tuner (electronic). I want to put them in my checked baggage but I don't want to have to dig them out until I get there. May I put these electronics in checked bags?

| If its valuable I would keep in in my hand luggage. That would be the same for any travel, regardless of destination! |

I brought a portable hard drive in my checked bag I just wrapped it in a jacket in cushioned in the middle of the suitcase, no problems for me.
Something like a laptop i'd take in my hand luggage. |

Thanks for the helpful replies. While I'm at it, thanks for all the help in this thread and all the others.
Another question - Can I check one hard and one soft bag? They are within the size limits. I found no restrictions and no mention of checking soft bags on airline sites.
I'm going to Los Angeles to get my visa on Thursday. Thanks for all the useful information in the "what to bring to the embassy" threads.
