couldn't resist posting this in case anyone missed it.

Quote:
Male Teachers Needed to Work in Saudi Arabia to Teach Adult Men

the title of a job vacancy on the web. i just love the 'adult men' bit.

the author has clearly realized that in that region, and its immediate environs, not very many 'men' are 'adult'

excellent.

I wonder how they are defining "adult" - is it by age? is there a "maturity" test? Cool

Will the male teachers have to take the same test?

I'm guessing it will come down to a coin toss.

Well, VS, believe it or not, in this region of the world, a man who is not circumcised is not an 'adult man' in addition to other characteristics like responsibility, maturity, and sound mind.

Well, if the male teacher is not a Muslim, then the definition of 'adulthood' is different! Laughing

So, I guess the title of the job advert is correct, at least from their point of view.

Circumcision as the basis of a social linguistic parse?
The phrase adult men is simply redundant. What are you defending, 007? The ad? Or are you deflecting derision of it? The ad is poorly written. So what?
The ad clumsily seeks an action for an agent as well.
"Male Teachers Needed to Work in Saudi Arabia to Teach Adult Men"
Teachers needed to work to teach...in Saudi Arabia...male ones for men.
What about:
Male teachers needed for adult males in Saudi Arabia?
In a newspaper, that edit might save you a few dollars a week.

Dear 007,

This gentleman is incorrect, then?

"Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits. While circumcision is an incumbent religious duty in Islam, it is not a condition for being a Muslim. Given that, it doesn't affect the validity of his prayer, or your marriage.

Aye, but the kitty cat is obviously a Shia'a...I mean, why else would he publicly beat himself to a bloody pulp on a daily basis and experience self-gratification in doing so?

Over to you, SnB...

Well, of course circumcision is not a condition for being a Muslim, circumcision is obligatory for the Muslim male if he is able to do it. If for medical reason, or any other reasons, a Muslim is unable to circumcise, then he does not commit a sin by not doing it.
