I just got my card and it cost me $20, but I got it at the same time I paid for my regular passport. I think that is the difference. Had they charged $50 or so, I would have seriously debated whether or not to get it.

Was that before or after July 13????

I paid $20 for mine, which is the cost of it when you get at the same time as renewing your passport. It may be more if bought separately. It is useful, but limited to the US, Mexico and many islands of the Caribbean (although not Cuba obviously). Living in Florida, I bought it mainly with the idea of using it on cheap cruises to the Bahamas.

That's the exact opposite of my experience, but YMMV.

I'm curious: How can having more ID's work against you?

You don't need to carry more ID's just because you have them. Usually, you only need to carry one. The others can't hurt because they're safely stored somewhere. And they can help you prove who you are if you lose the one you're carrying.

Sounds like a good idea to have one. How much does it cost?? That could influence the decision for me....

I've been traveling through many countries that use a WHOLE page for their visas, so I've had to get extra pages stitched/glued in on 2 separate occasions.... Used to be free, but now it costs about $80 or something....

American Passport

Really? I heard that they were going to charge and got new pages in April for free.

I just received my new passport and they put 52 instead of 24 pages in it at no extra charge.

It said on the website that I could ask for 52 and I did and the last page is numbered 52.

That was in April, but since July 13 the prices have changed...

Straight from the horses mouth...

The first link is easy to read, and the second link explains WHY they changed all the prices...
