Is it supposed to be Aug, Sept, or Oct/Nov? I've heard various approximate dates but don't really know more than that. Also, is elementary/high school different from university by about a few weeks or a month, I've heard that before but really not sure either. What are the nearest official start dates for each (i.e. October 12th or something). Thanks. |

The new school year (for Thai based schools) starts in May.
Many international schools (the real ones - not just by name) follow the North American school year.
The mid year break is in Oct and the 2nd term (this year in our province) starts up at the end of Oct. (~26th). Our campus includes students from K-12 as well as 1 and 2 year college programs.
The hiring period for the 2nd term is finishing up now so people can get their visa and work permit taken care of before the start of the 2nd term.
There will still be some ASAP postings to fill jobs that are still open in many schools (public and private) for entry level EFL positions.
The hiring period for the spring will be between the end of Feb and the end of April.
The Language institutes hire year round on an as needed basis.

Thai government universities start the year at the beginning of June with the first semester running through to the end of September or the first week of October. Second semester is from the end of October through to about the beginning of March. Some unis and Rajabahts may have slightly different start/finish times but generally they are within a week of the above. |

I think this is all correct, except hiring for the second semester for the vast majority of public schools and unis hasnt even begun. Just like everything else in Thailand, those institutions wait til the last minute or do everything late -- including hiring new teachers. Most people get the non b visa but then wait a month or two to get the work permit; need to get medical check, etc in the meanwhile. I think the best time to find those kinds of jobs is about a month before any given semester starts. |
