Hey, after a five year stretch from 2002-2007 and looking to get back into it, I've decided to get off the rollercoaster that is the Korean ESL situation right now, and I've committed to a school in Ho Chi Minh City.

I was curious if anybody here has worked in both Korea and Vietnam? What are the similarities and differences between the two countries, from an expat's point of view?

I've not taught in Korea, but I HAVE placed teachers who came to Vn from Korea. In a few cases, I would say more like "rescued" a few foreign teachers and got them to Vietnam. The concencus seems to be that whilst Vn is no teachers heaven, the freedom factor is a big issue.
Most have been pleased they made the move.

This is the Vietnam Forum of the International Board. Postings and threads here must focus on living and teaching in Vietnam.

If you wish to discuss living and teaching in Korea, please do so on the Korean board that requires separate registration.

Thanks, Snolly.

MOD EDIT I'm going to be working in Vietnam so I'm just wondering what adjustments I'll need to make.

Obviously, the visa issue ranks as the first big difference.

I Korea its a pain, but at least the process is clear.
