Great information. I did look at the United site and the lowest economy 1 way fare was almost 3000 dollars - but looking at other travel sites - I have found fares around 900 - so I am confused by the statement that the airlines offer the same prices. In addition I am only getting 6000 rmb for my flight - between 800 and 900 dollars. Obviously the 3000 is ridiculous - when teachers are only getting paid between 4000 to 7000 rmb. Last week I found tickets in the 700 dollar range for the same trip on the same date. So where are these cheap fares on United?

United (and others) "low price guarantee" or whatever they call it does not guarantee that all of their flights are cheaper than the competition. What they do is (with United for example) guarantee that any specific United flight booked through a third party (travelocity or anything like that) will not be cheaper than that exact same flight booked directly through United.

Finding a cheap flight through a third party search, but then try to book the ticket directly through the airline. Most airlines will match or beat the prices for their tickets offered by third parties. This is at least true for US based carriers. For some reason the opposite seems true with Chinese carriers!

Oh and get a frequent flier account if you don't already have one. Turns out China is really far away and racks up a lot of miles quick Smile

I fly from the UK and always book direct. Never seen fares cheaper than booking them directly.

Two checked bags may be standard in the US, not from the UK, so I would want to be sure I could bring two bags on the connecting flight without charge. My last connecting flight was Kuala Lumpar to Guilin, with Air Asia, and they dont allow any checked bags free. I wouldnt want to pay for two bags ... plus you dont really need two IMO.

I haven't used this site, but I stumbled upon it, and it's a lot cheaper than anything else I've ever seen/used. It's wholesale-flights.com, and an example is a roundtrip ticket from DFW to either Beijing or Shanghai is around $550.

With whatever "respect" is due, this has got to be the lamest thing I've ever read on Dave's.

"How does a person join frequent flyer plan?"

May I hold your hand and walk you to your first class former "sub"?
