Ethics.

Perhaps over aftertoon tea, the students could discuss "insider trading"? Is it ethical?

You'll have to research all of the terminology pertaining to this subject. Buy low/Sell high.

What would you do if ....

Nice inspiration.

Beyond that - imagine you are a stock broker who knows a certain company is a bad investment but your boss pushes you to sell the stock?

"Liar's Poker" by Michael Lewis is a nice book.

Okay.... they did the ads, in written form?

An activity I stole from another teacher was to crate short dialogues, but the style/genre would change. So, they knew they were talking about studying or weather, but they didn't know if they were cowboys, WWE/WWF, studying wushu, James Bond, a boy bumps into his ex-girlfriend and she is now dating his best friend, etc. They knew the list of about ten genres, but the didn't know until they were in front of the class which one they would do.

So, for a business class... how do they create a radio ad that is very serious/somber, pitch to four year old kids, Chinese New Year, slam the competition, female audience only, male audience only, Super Junior (Korean boyband), Beijing opera, cover it as a financial news report, etc...

Had a class of ten, split them up into two groups. They "pitched" a restaurant... decor, location, menu, wine list, how they advertise, etc. Quick presentation from the board, and then the other group asked them questions (don't allow grilling). Rinse and repeat. The same group was _very_interested in how to sell/buy real estate.

Although I have only seen one episode, what about using something like "Celebrity Apprentice," big stars who have to come up with something great in a very short period of time... intro it somehow, divvy up the groups (you decide if you are The Donald) and away you go...

Keep us posted.

Aloha,

XLB
