So you think that China should simply raise salaries for westerners because you have higher costs of living and education and so on? Yes, we all know that traveling during your breaks is a requirement of human existence, right?
Chinese people have no problem raising children, buying apartments, buying food, supporting large extended families, and getting around in their lives with significantly less than $500 a month.
This is life in China. If $$ is your concern then why not get your job back home? |
If they can do all that, it doesn't mean I should also be able to. They are in their home and place of comfort while foreigners are far from home. There are differences. |

| wow thanks kiels, sounds absolutely awesome! that sounds like exactly the kind of thing im looking for to start off with, was getting kind of nervous about starting out and came very close to booking myself on an intership, which would have given me the whole social and support thing but pretty much no money, what do you think i could expect to be paid starting out at Aston? couldnt see it anywhere on the website straight away |

Hey, the info for the salary is on the contracts page; If you choose the 15 hour week, its 4000 RMB a month, 20 hours is 5000 RMB and 25 hours is 6,200 RMB> the cost of living is so low out there and I think it is relatively good pay. It's honestly a great place to start out. If you have any more questions, let me know  |

| Really do check out the videos on youtube though. Will help you choose between Jinan and Dalian. They are both good videos and give you a good perspective into the schools and locations x |

Obviously internet is easily accesible. What about a gym? How often do you interact with westerners? I've lived in Beijing so I know what to expect of a Chinese city, but not a town/village setting. How long have you been in Yangshuo?

I've lived in Beijing so I know what to expect of a Chinese city, but not a town/village setting. How long have you been in Yangshuo?
I dont think its remote at all. Its a big stop on the tourist trail and as such is full of Western amenities, English speakers and Western type bars. This is a wild guess, but I think there are more Foreigners here than anywhere else in China!!! That can be seen as a disadvantage as well as an advantage though! You will never ever be short of Western company here if thats your thing though.
No gym though, none that I am aware of anyway..ditto with cinema. I was there from Dec - June and am home in the UK now....

In 2002 I completed my university TESL Certificate, I also have a BA. I put my resume on the web at Dave's. The best offer was for a university in Shenyang. Best thing I ever did!
I've taught eight semesters in Shenyang universities and picked up a Chinese wife. Because I'm retired and have a pension, the 3500 Kwai a month I got was the most lucrative job I've ever held. I lived on it and banked my whole pension. I frequented bars, took taxis, ate in restaurants and travelled locally.
It was only after I had a live in GF that I started to take a bit here and there from my Canadian bank.
Warning: if you're not retired, China is a great place for a year or two at most. Don't get trapped here in your prime earning years. You'll never save enough to retire to a first world country. |

Nick did a good job with the pics-Ive been to Guilin/Yangshou, and it really wasnt anything that special-and was an absolute tourist trap-maybe the three an hour ads on BBC world should have been a giveaway...
Once again, another big disappointment in ones travels in China. Rarely does a landmark/hotspot in this part of the world live up to the hype. |
