Does anyone know if the .docx format is now preferred over the .doc format in attachments? I've been saving as .doc.
Is .pdf fine as well? |

Basically I do this:
.docx - only if I know for sure that the other party has the latest version of Office. (e.g. the instructors I work with, other colleagues who have sent me .docx files in the past, etc.)
.doc - pretty much a safe bet, everyone has something that can read/edit these.
.pdf - only if I want to send something that will just be read and not have to be edited. Everyone has pdf readers, not everyone has pdf editors. |

.pdf files have the additional advantage of always maintaining the original formatting. It is sometimes the case that your layouts get screwed up when opened by the recipient(s) when attachments are sent as .doc or .docx files. |
