I'm heading to Hanoi to teach start early 2011.
I apologise if this question has already been asked but how long does it usually take for the visa paperwork to be processed please?
The school I have been accepted to say they will handle everything for me (I have already submitted my CELTA and degree transcripts to them plus passport copy). They reckon it takes about a month for everything to be processed.

Most people come on a tourist visa initially, and the school will help you get a Work Permit, and change your visa type.

The tourist visa is only good for 30 days.

Is a visa run required to change the visa type and get the work permit, or is this done in 'Nam on the tourist visa?

Tourist visas are usually renewed in Vietnam by travel agents or hotels.
The situation changes from time to time, but where theres a will or a dollar, it can be done.
