As the school year starts again, I was wondering if any of you guys are thinking about going to the national MEXTESOL conference in Cancun this year? November 4th until 7th.
There are some really good speakers such as David Nunan coming along, and more workshops than ever before... (I had my workshop proposal accepted too!)
Please take a look at the schedule at www.mextesol.org.mx
Tell us if you're going to come!!! |

Is it worth the 200 pesos to join this organization? Thought I would give the workshop/professional development a try and this organization looks like a good start. |

If there more local events and people to meet, I wouldnt hesitate to join, but taking off to Cancun for an event with an organization Im not directly involved in is definitely out of the question. |

I think it depends on where you are. Here in Mexico City there are monthly day long workshops/lectures.
I am considerig attending. I've never been to Cancun, but wonder how expensive a hotel would be for three nights. Any ideas? |

Every month? That may be worth it then. |

The hotels they have listed is anywhere from 900 to 1,200 pesos.
Registration fees is like 1,200 for members.
1,600 for non members |

The hotel prices they have listed are in the Hotel Zone. You can get a hotel in town for a lot less. You can take a bus and get off at the site.
One of my teachers is presenting so I will be attending at least one day. |

Have you seen Herbert Putcha and David Nunan amongst other very famous EFLers are going?
The provisional schedule has now been posted and there definitely seems more variety than ever before!
And yes, getting your own hotel room will be much cheaper than the ones that MEXTESOL are recommending. |

I'm not going this year--the new baby has depleted my funds--but have been in the past and I always felt it was worth the money. |

Just wondering...how many times in a year does the MEXTESOL have a national conference like they're having in Cancun and do they ever hold them in the DF?
They supposedly have a workshop once a month in the DF, correct? |

The national conferences are held annually in the fall, with the location changing every year. I can't recall the last time it was held in Mexico City, but I'm sure it has happened.
The sbados acadmicos take place monthly.

I checked out this years schedule, and I really wish I could go. It looks good. I'm sure those going will not be disapointed. |

The national conference rotates around the country;
2008 Leon
2009 Monterrey
2010 Cancun
2011 Puebla
2012 Morelia
2013 Guadalajara
They did the conference in DF many many years ago and unfortunately it was a bit of a flop, so they don't have plans to go back in the forseeable future.
Before anyone says anything--- I really don't know why it was a flop nor do i know they they won't consider going back at the moment. I campaigned hard for the conference to come back to GDL, which is will do to celebrate MEXTESOLs 30th anniversary. |
