|
|
Hi all......
So....I am going to have to file my previous year's taxes in the US in order to get my husband his immigrant visa for the US.
I have most of the info. I need, but I'm just wondering if anyone has been through the process??
I will be filing 2008/9, and I know that I did not make enough money to pay, but I'm wondering how much I might be fined and how long it will all take??
Anyone been through this and have any info. or advice?
Thanks |

If you didn't owe anything, then you won't have to pay anything for being late. You just go ahead and file the paperwork -- maybe attaching a brief explanation for why you didn't file on time. |

Follow the KISS method, especially when it comes to U.S. Government drones...
You didn't owe money? No foul, no harm...

You don't send anything in place of a W2 since you had 0 US income, or at least I didn't send anything when I filed my normal taxes and nobody ever said anything about it. I used Google to convert my foreign-earned income to US dollars and put it in the box for foreign-earned income and that was it. They don't really care if they can't tax it. |

Sounds like a typical bureaucracy. "Up to" could mean anything, too. Best of luck. |

I think you're supposed to send a copy of the Japanese tax statement. Not that they can read it, but at least they can't complain about you being incomplete and proving the Japanese income was below the EIE limit. |

I had income from multiple countries, some of which I didn't have any tax information from. Good thing I never heard back from them, I guess. I filed online through Turbotax and it never said anything about sending something like that. |

I have read all of the info in the instruction manual and I haven't seen anything that says to send any proof of income from Japan......seems weird but??
I have found info on other sites that some people do send something, like the gensen choshyu, but as far as I know, nothing is required.
I might send somehting, just because I want to be sure that there are no problems which might delay the whole process.
