You''re going to China to avoid corruption ?

Look,
let me send you this link --

http://www.willexceltesol.com/main.htm

Good course provider located in Harbin. They offer the TESOL cert and a TESOL diploma which will help you in you obtaining a better job in case somebody thinks that you having a western passport isn't a good enough qual.

What's nice about them is that they have a lot of connections with language schools all over Harbin (joy, kid castle, top, calisunshine, harbin modern english etc.) to place you in after you've finished the course.

Silly post. Why would he need a 'B.A.' for his students?? U don't even know what age group he teaches, so that's just a pointless thing to say.

Thank you for expressing your opinion just as I expressed mine. I would think that showing the initiative to at least complete a beginning degree would be a good start in building a rapport with students who may be seeking English skills in order to pursue higher education.

And if he teaches only little kids, so what? It's still a good idea. But hey, if he can get hired, more power to him.

I have been to Cambodia (albeit for a short trip) and yes, it was very backward for sure, I'm just saying China has lots of corruption too, and idiots in flash cars with little regard for others. Life might not be as cheap there as it is in Cambodia, but it is pretty cheap. Very Happy

I think if you are sick to your back teeth of corruption, and dangerous/arrogant drivers, then China might not be the best choice.

China has a lot of things that grate on your nerves very quickly, that might be described as "mental stuff", such as people shouting insults/jibes/threats at you in the street on a regular basis, for no reason at all. And that happened to me in one of China's most 'Westernised' cities.

Right Rolling Eyes U r obviously one of those 'teachers' that feel stupid for wasting/spending so much time on a BA that didn't help u one bit as a teacher. I agree it might help him land a job, but to say it's a good idea to get one EVEN if he is only teaching lil kids is just plain stupid. Again, visas are another reason to want to get any random BA/BS, but for you to say 'he owes it to his students' to get one is moronic.

I can see that following this path has done wonders for your adjectival repertoire Smile

My BA is good for quite a few things (visas, CV's, non-teaching jobs), but to insinuate I should have gotten it for my students' sake is just silly. I feel bad for your students because they have a teacher that thinks he's done them a favor by obtaining a BA; assuming u have one, of course...

I suppose you missed the part about doing it for his own sake, as well Smile

I see no reason to bring my own credentials into this - that's not the issue here.

Have a nice day - perhaps the OP will decide to further his education for a variety of reasons, some of which you mention - or perhaps he will decide to live in Cambodia for the rest of his life, which will likely be the only place he can get a job after a while. As I said, if that works for him, good for him.

That has never ever happened to me here, and I've never heard of that happening here. It's never cold here in Cambodia either, so China doesn't sound very appetizing to me anyways.... Laughing

No, I didn't miss that at all. If that had been ALL you said I probably wouldn't have bothered posting.

And if I struck any nerves by bringing up your credentials or students I sincerely apologize.

I was also under the impression that the OP's salary of over $1000 tax-free per month was a very comfortable amount of money to live on in Cambodia as well. I mean, isn't Cambodia one of the poorest countries in the world? That kind of money must go a long way! I was on a good couple of hundred less than that when I was in China, with a lot more qualifications than the OP. I think with what he has he might struggle to make $1000, or the equivalent in relation to the cost of living, in China.

I need to say though, depending on where you stay in China, cold weather doesn't have to be an issue. I was down on the border with Macau and it was basically always hot/warm. Smile

Thanks people....

Excuse MY ignorance, mr. cheeks, but are you saying that you don't know what a BA is? At the risk of insulting your intelligence it means "Bachelor of Arts".
