				| I have just been shafted by a school in the west of Poland. I wouldn't like to name the school which has just said it cannot employ me because 'one its biggest corporate clients' has pulled out at the last minute. I had a contract and have paid for my flights.
I am not as worried as I might have been, because I have 2.5 years experience, including some at a UK university, CELTA, and an on-campus MA, but I just feel that some people have not got a clue. They probably shafted me because they were paying me 300 zl a month more than the newer teachers.
Economic sense, but I shall chase them.

				| I had this happen before. What city are they in?
You still have time to find a job. I have had 10 schools answer in the last week saying they want to interview.

Why not? Stick it to them, I say.

				| If it was a full contract and not a prelim, take them to court. The lawyer will tell you what to claim for. | |

				| Sorry mate! Just be glad you didn't end up working for this unprofessional outfit. It's time to go to plan B. Your destiny waits elsewhere. | |

				| Plan B has come into fruition after an interview on Tuesday- better wages and a more pleasant city, I believe.
I have sent a letter to them asking for a more thorough explanation and my airfare back. I may step it up soon.

They apparently employed SIX new native speakers. A lot for a small school. Shambolic.

				| Sorry to hear that dude, I ran into a pretty bad school here my first year... but I was the one dropping the contract. I'm pretty amazed how some of the schools here operate haha... looking forward to being a successful business owner pretty soon though and stuffing my own pockets instead of people who simply could care less Good luck man!

David Mitchell is great. I've never seen him before. I agree completely with him on the expression, BTW. My parents told me the same since I was a child...and guess what...We're Americans!

So how do Brits say "Herbal tea" ...not like 'erbal, I take it? But research and Bernard? I didn't get those.

Aspirated "h", like house, home and horse. Herbal. Then there's re'SEARCH (as opposed to 'REsearch, although this is becoming a verb-noun difference like 'REcord-re'CORD) and 'BERnard (as in the dog, St 'BERnard.)

				| I too was shafted by what we have established was the same school. Doesn't seem like there any holes in the contract though, just a lack of honourable conduct. Anyone else in a similar situ, send either of us a PM. Also, wojbrian, from your previous messages in this forum, I believe you might have had the same issue with the same school. | |

				| It wasn't the same school.
I came to Poland 2 years ago when it was getting hard to hire Americans. They pulled the job on me after I arrived. To quote the Brits it was complete and utter bolloks. (hope that's spelled proper)

How tied to a school are you until you sign the contract?

				| This particular school hired goodness knows how many new native speaking teachers just incase a couple of them decided not to turn up in Poland. The school's excuse - a corporate client pulling out at the last minute - is hard to believe, on this occasion. To pastures new.
