Hi. I may have a chance at a job in Bandung. The salary would be a little over 8juta. Can anyone tell me what standard of living I could expect from this? I would be responsible for my own accomodation. I don't hope to save money, but I would like to live well and have a good social life. I guess a modest one bedroom apartment would suffice but it must be near the centre of town. Thanks for any advice. Oh and how much does health insuarance cost there? thanks again. |

8 million a month is pretty good money outside of Jakarta. For that salary you could live in modest comfort with some Western luxuries.
You can probably rent a small house in Bandung for say 12 to 15 million a year - but you'll have to pay the full one year's lease up front. |

You'd be laughing on 8m in Bandung. Do you really want to live near the centre of town? It's much nicer to the north. Which school? I used to rent my 3 bedroom house for 4m. |

In 1996, 1 mill = $500
8 mill a month is a lot of money for Indonesia ACTUALLY I trust that there is something wrong in this figure |
You've mentioned 1996 a couple of times, so I'm guessing you haven't been here since. A million Rp is now worth only $118 US. Factor in the monetary crisis, rampant inflation, etc. and you'll find that things are a lot more expensive now than they were 8 years ago.
8 juta is good money for Bandung - but not fantastic. You can live reasonably well, but you won't be living it up high on the hog. |
